Karm: the system Devalok runs its people on
From the offer letter to the monthly payslip, everything about working at Devalok happens in one app. Thirteen months of building, with every personal record kept in India.
The brief
Devalok is a design studio. Hiring, attendance, leave and payroll were spread across spreadsheets, email and chat, and nobody had the full picture.
They wanted one place their team would actually open every day. Because payroll means Aadhaar, PAN and bank details, where the data lives mattered as much as how it looked.
What I built
From offer to first day
Offer letters go out from Karm and are accepted there. Pre-onboarding is secured with a one-time code, then onboarding collects documents and details.
Attendance that reminds you
Daily check-ins and breaks. Two reminder emails if you forget, a note if you miss the day, and admin approval for corrections.
Leave and breaks, requested and approved
Requests, approvals and rejections, each with its own email so nobody has to chase.
Payroll and payslips
Pay calculated from attendance and leave, with adjustments, and a payslip every month. Apprentices too.
Runs on its own
Scheduled jobs send the reminders and summaries. End-to-end tests cover onboarding and the dashboard before every release.
Data stays in India
Google sign-in only, hosting in AWS Mumbai, sensitive documents encrypted and every access logged.
