Case study · Designer (and multi-hyphenate)
Emma Berliner: a multi-hyphenate’s portfolio, sorted by the role she played
A second site designed by Gandhar Vamburkar, for a Los Angeles designer whose clients include Nike, Netflix, Glossier and Vogue. Lots of moving image, none of the showreel clutter.

The brief
Emma Berliner is a designer. Her own site calls her a multi-hyphenate, and it’s fair: creative direction, visual branding and motion design, for screens big and small.
Her work comes in many roles: creative director on one project, motion designer on the next. The site needed to show all of it, let people find work by the role she played, and let her keep it up to date herself.
What I built
Work sorted by role
Every project carries the roles Emma played, each with its own colour. Pick a role and the list narrows, with your choice highlighted.
Video that loads properly
A custom Vimeo player with its own loading states for video, images and embeds, so nothing jumps while the page fills in.
Project pages that read top to bottom
A long-form project view with carousels, sections and a credit for every collaborator.
An info page she edits herself
Bio, services, collaborators, studio location and CV, all in Sanity, with the editor built into the site.
A mobile header of its own
Rebuilt for phones, not shrunk from desktop.
The part I loved
“The role filter. One tap and the whole body of work rearranges around what you came for.”
